Resonator
Design a landscape installation that carries water and birdsong to visitors who feel rather than hear — grown out of a Deaf student's thesis on tactile landscape sound. Skin reads vibration from about 1 Hz to 1 kHz (fingertips keenest near 250 Hz, whole body at 4–8 Hz), so a stream's low rumble can be felt at pitch while birdsong at 2–8 kHz must come down in whole octaves or arrive as rhythm. See the sources laid over the vibrotactile band, measure the real site with the mic, size a reed, plank, cable or membrane to the target frequency — then pluck-test the built element with an Arduino + accelerometer over Web Serial and read the frequency and damping it actually rings at. Client-side; nothing is uploaded.
Everything runs in your browser — recordings and rig data are analyzed locally and never uploaded. The Verify tab's live capture needs Web Serial (Chrome/Edge); every browser can upload a logged CSV.
Where the landscape sounds vs what skin can feel
Touch is not a low-fi ear. The skin reads vibration from about 1 Hz to about 1,000 Hz, and the fingertip is most sensitive near 250 Hz; through feet and a seated body the sweet spot drops to 4–8 Hz. Most birdsong lives at 1.5–8 kHz — entirely outside the skin — so a tactile birdsong installation must transpose it down in whole octaves (keeping its melodic shape) or translate its rhythm, which always survives. Water is more generous: a stream's low half, and a bullfrog's whole croak, sit inside the band and can be felt at pitch. Click a source to work with it.
